Dustin Titus, representing Aztec Youth Sports, asked the commission to put a planned youth-sports building on a future agenda. He said his nonprofit can raise funds and would donate the building to the city to be city‑owned but operated by Aztec Youth Sports.
Dustin Titus, who said he represents Aztec Youth Sports, asked the Aztec City Commission on March 24 to place a proposal on a future agenda to expand youth-sports facilities at Apple Field.
“We think we can pay for it,” Titus told the commission, saying Aztec Youth Sports would donate a building to the city that would remain city-owned but be operated by the nonprofit. He described a plan that would add a wrestling room, equipment storage and an activities headquarters to support growing football, track and wrestling programs.
Titus said the organization was formed in 2019, has a board of 11 members, uses local volunteers and has run hiring and fundraising conversations with potential supporters. He said his employer, Hillcorp, and other local partners have provided support and that community giving opportunities could contribute to fundraising.
Commissioners indicated interest and advised Titus that any facility agreement or change in use of municipal property would need to come to the commission for formal approval and contract review. The mayor and commissioners encouraged him to bring a formal proposal and any draft agreements, and to coordinate the project with the city’s existing contracts for field use.
The commission did not take a vote on the proposal at the meeting; commissioners asked staff to place the item on a future agenda after the organization completes its internal approvals and prepares contract documentation.
