Architect gives construction update and flags change orders for Bullitt County school projects

Kate Noble Ward, an architect with Studio Kramer Architects, told the Bullitt County Board of Education the district’s east fine-arts wing, Area C connector and related site work are progressing and that equipment commissioning has begun in Area B.
“We've got a May 4 potential completion of the auditorium,” Ward said, and reported the project team is timing startup to protect completed spaces. She said equipment startup in other areas is scheduled after spring break and a substantial-completion meeting with the owner is planned this Thursday.
Ward outlined several recommended change orders and cost adjustments. She identified required hot-water piping insulation as a change-order item, restroom hardware revisions at multiple sites with an example labor estimate of $1,600 and materials of $2,900 for a swap, and ongoing general-site work listed under change order 33 on the meeting agenda. Ward also described credits in the technology bid package — $800 for Central and $900 for East — and a $13,000 credit for back-lit lighting that was not documented in the contract drawings.
On elements described as nonstructural, Ward said the team will install additional control joints at an elevated walkway to address superficial cracking and complete a netting foundation for an end-zone area; facilities staff already have the materials for one post associated with that work.
The architect said materials not used on site will be salvaged by the district and that some items — including minor door hardware and tennis-court lighting work — remain the contractor's responsibility under the contract. Ward apologized that the presentation was light on images and said she will provide more visuals at the next update.
Next steps: the board was asked to consider the listed change orders on tonight’s agenda (including change order 33) and the district will bring substantial-completion certificates forward as projects reach milestone status.
