Library trustees approve December bill register after questions over digital-content charges

The Appleton library board of trustees approved the December 2025 bill register after trustees asked about several digital-content line items and staff explained the charges.

The questioning came from a committee member, who asked about entries on page 8 that appeared to list large amounts for OverDrive and a separate 'Library Ideas LLC' line. The committee member said they were unsure whether the lines represented recurring subscriptions or one-time purchases. "I just wanted to ask what those charges were," the committee member said.

A staff member responded that the OverDrive/Libby entries represented purchases for titles in Libby and end-of-year spending, and that Library Ideas LLC supplies children’s "read-alongs." "Yes, those are purchases, for titles in Libby," the staff member said. Regarding Library Ideas LLC the staff member explained: "They are children's, books with a book and a little bit of a player attached."

The staff member added that the library often spends remaining funds late in the year because items must be received by Dec. 30 for inclusion in the fiscal-year expenditures.
