Oswego trustees approve electronic attendance for Trustee Jennifer Hughes, move into closed session

The Committee of the Whole for the Board of Trustees voted on Feb. 3, 2026 to allow Trustee Jennifer Hughes to attend the meeting electronically and then moved into a closed session to consider litigation, personnel and property matters.
The chair opened the meeting, explained Trustee Hughes had submitted paperwork to attend electronically and asked for a motion to approve her remote participation. "I'll accept a motion to approve Trustee Jennifer Hughes to electronically attend the Committee of the Whole, 02/03/2026," the chair said. A committee member moved to approve the request and the chair seconded the motion.
During the roll call on the request to allow electronic attendance, trustees recorded affirmative votes for Trustee Cooper, Trustee Torres, Trustee Koenig, Trustee McCarthy Lang and Trustee Novi; the motion carried. The chair then opened the public forum and invited anyone wishing to speak. "If there's anyone wishing to speak, please feel free to come forward now," the chair said; seeing no speakers, the chair closed the forum.
With no old order business on the agenda, the chair moved to convene a closed session, citing pending and probable litigation; appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of personnel; collective bargaining and negotiating matters; deliberations concerning salary schedules; and the sale, lease and/or acquisition of property. The motion to enter closed session passed on roll call, with trustees McCarthy Lang, Torres, Novi, Koenig, Hughes and Cooper recorded as voting in the affirmative. The committee recessed to the community room for the closed session and later returned to open session.
The committee adjourned and took a five-minute audio break before the full board meeting scheduled to begin at 7:05 p.m.
Actions recorded in the meeting minutes include approval for Trustee Jennifer Hughes to attend electronically on Feb. 3, 2026, and a formal vote to enter closed session for the purposes listed above. No public comments were registered during the public forum.
