Boonton honors outgoing Fire Chief Anthony Cosentino and swears in new fire leadership

The Jan. 1 Boonton reorganizational meeting included a formal recognition of outgoing Fire Chief Anthony Cosentino and the swearing-in of new and continuing fire leadership.
Mayor Lynch and others honored Cosentino for his service, citing his tenure and the department’s accomplishments. Cosentino thanked the mayor, council, staff and fellow firefighters, noted the expense of firefighting apparatus and the importance of departmental support, and reflected on sending personnel home safely as a primary goal of his tenure.
The council then administered oaths for the new or continuing fire leadership. Senator Anthony Bucco (present for the meeting) administered the oath for Glenn Baker as the Boonton fire department chief; Baker swore to support the federal and state constitutions and to impartially perform the duties of the chief. Deputy Chief Anthony Buka and Battalion Chief Michael Caruso were similarly sworn. The council then proceeded to swear a roster of captains and lieutenants; Councilmember Marie Dibenizia administered the group oath and thanked the officers for their service.
The council considered and passed Resolution 26-02 accepting the 2026 fire department appointments; the resolution was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote. Several officers and leaders noted rising call volumes and encouraged recruitment of volunteers and safe driving practices when emergency apparatus are passing.
The recognition and swearing-in are organizational actions required to maintain departmental leadership and operational continuity; no disciplinary or personnel disputes were recorded in the session.
