Boonton swears in four council members; Weisman elected council president

Boonton’s Jan. 1 reorganizational meeting formally installed four council members and selected a council president. Mayor Lynch administered or announced the oath for returning Ward 1 council member John Meehan and the newly elected Ward 2, Ward 3 and Ward 4 members: Danielle Cascone, Kimberly Massey and Luisa Lopez. The oath language included pledges to support the U.S. and New Jersey constitutions and to perform the duties of office impartially.

The council conducted a brief nomination process for council president. After nominations were opened and a motion was called, the council voted by voice for Mr. Weisman as council president; the president’s election was acknowledged in the meeting with the council’s congratulations.

The meeting included routine organizational business. Mayor Lynch presented appointments to the council and to town boards and committees; a motion to advance the appointments passed on a voice vote. The consent agenda (resolutions numbered in the 26-03 through 26-50 range) was moved and approved by roll call; the clerk recorded affirmative responses from the assembled members.

The meeting closed with brief council remarks, an open public-comment period during which no one spoke, and a motion that adjourned the session. The mayor invited attendees to a post-meeting reception at the firehouse.
