Monroe Council adopts rezoning for Meadowview site after heated public hearing; 4‑1 vote

The Monroe Township Council voted March 2 to adopt Ordinance O‑02‑2003, rezoning township parcels as part of the municipality’s fourth‑round affordable‑housing plan, including the former Meadowview property at 319 Spotswood/Gravel Hill Road. The measure passed on roll call 4‑1, with Councilman Charles DePiro recorded as the lone “no.”

Residents who live near the Meadowview site told the council they supported affordable housing in principle but said the proposed rezoning as written threatens privacy, traffic and neighborhood character. “We’re not opposing the affordable housing, but we’re asking for fairness and mitigation,” said resident Ravi Kolu, who lives directly behind the proposed site and urged enforceable setbacks, permanent buffering and restrictions on rear‑facing windows and balconies.
