Penn Miller Jones told the council the owners plan to open a Milkshake Factory franchise at 6163 East Ridgewood Ave, expect to hire about 15–20 employees and hope to open by July after a buildout of the former Duxiana space.
Penn Miller Jones, introduced by Mayor Raglanos as a new local business owner, told the Village Council on March 30 that he and his wife plan to open a Milkshake Factory franchise at 6163 East Ridgewood Ave, the former Duxiana storefront.
The owners said they secured three franchise licenses after attending the brand’s discovery day in Pittsburgh and hope the Ridgewood location — directly across from the square — will draw families and foot traffic. “We anticipate probably hiring somewhere between 15 to 20 individuals,” Miller Jones said, adding the shop will focus on milkshakes and sundaes and will not sell scoop ice cream. He also said the business plans to sell handmade chocolates and invest in a significant build‑out of the space.
Mayor Raglanos and council members briefly questioned the concept and asked about employee discounts; Miller Jones said details would be discussed later. Council offered the new owners good wishes for a successful opening.
The plan is at a preliminary stage: Miller Jones said they hoped to close on the building within ‘‘the next week to week and a half’’ and targeted a July opening, contingent on completing the purchase and construction.
