Boonton council hears updates on grants, Darius Theater and Main Street events; farmers market set for May 16

Council member Meehan reported that the economic development committee met and reviewed multiple grants and projects aimed at supporting downtown Boonton. Meehan highlighted progress on the Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) grant, work with the Darius Theater (including outreach to vendors who did not submit RFP responses to understand shortfalls), and a Highlands grant. The committee is reviewing revised designer proposals for the NPP and continuing planning for a community garden.
Meehan said the Transit Village project is awaiting the next steps from the New Jersey Department of Transportation. He also encouraged use of volunteers (including offers of labor from local Eagle Scouts) to support community garden and Main Street efforts.
On events, Meehan said the 'Taste of Boonton' fundraiser is scheduled for Friday, Main Street is planning a spring stroll and a gallery walk, a town cleanup is set for April 18, and the farmers market will begin May 16 with about 80% of last year’s vendors returning and a waiting list for spots. He described multiple ribbon-cuttings and new businesses coming to town as positive signs.
Meehan said committees are coordinating with DPW for equipment and event logistics and will continue outreach to vendors and partners.
Next steps: continuing grant work, follow-up with DOT on Transit Village elements, and logistical coordination for spring events and the farmers market.
