Summary
Wellness coordinator Laura Farrell presented a new senior directory and free or low‑cost programs — Crest Silver Shells social club, functional fitness, Walking Wednesdays and wellness workshops — with schedules, locations and contact info for residents aged 65 and up.
Laura Farrell, the borough wellness coordinator, briefed the board on a package of senior services now consolidated on the borough recreation web page and at the recreation center. Farrell said the new senior directory lists police and EMS safety programs, daily wellness calls, lift-assist services, snow and trash removal through public works, and links to county social services.
Farrell announced a new social club, Crest Silver Shells, held Thursdays at Crest Pier from noon to 1:30 p.m., and described a senior functional fitness class on Wednesdays at Crest Pier (11 a.m. to noon) with a $5 fee (discounts available with a class card). She also leads a 30‑minute choreographed walking dance fitness program on Wednesdays called Walking Wednesdays (9:00–9:30 a.m.) followed by an optional walk; wellness workshops (chair yoga and meditation) meet Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. at Crest Pier for $5.
"It's free and it's available to all," Farrell said of several program elements, and she provided contact information (Laura Farrell, (609) 523-0202) and a physical pickup location for newsletters and calendars at 5800 Ocean Avenue and online at wildwoodcrest.org on the recreation page. The mayor and commissioners praised the directory and discussed outreach strategies to reach seniors who do not use social media or email, including posting materials at public buildings and mailing flyers to homes.
Farrell also described a Crest Care Card program that pairs students and community members to create encouragement cards for shut‑in seniors; she said there were about 20 cards in the drop box at Crest Pier at the time of the meeting.
The governing body expressed appreciation and did not identify any immediate budgetary changes tied to the rollout. The board encouraged staff to publicize the directory and use a mixture of online and physical outreach to reach the borough's senior population.
