The Absecon City Council on Monday adopted Ordinance 2-2026, amending the city code (chapter 2-51) to add article 7, which requires lead-based paint inspections for rental housing.
Council president Rick DeRose opened and closed a public hearing on the ordinance with no members of the public speaking. After a motion and a second, the council took a roll-call vote and approved the ordinance. "This ordinance has been heard and is finally approved," the council president said following the vote.
Council members discussed the ordinance as part of routine agenda business; no amendments were made during the final-reading motion. The council scheduled other ordinance hearings (including a capital appropriation ordinance) for a later date as part of the meeting's legislative calendar.
The ordinance will be posted and published according to law and is scheduled for the public hearing, second and final reading on 02/19/2026 for other items that had been laid over. The council did not record any recorded public opposition during the hearing on Ordinance 2-2026.
