Boulder City Council approved an interlocal agreement to participate in a newly proposed Southern Nevada Council of Governments (SNCOG), formed to replace or consolidate duties formerly performed by the Southern Nevada Regional Planning Commission (SNRPC).
Staff told the council the SNCOG would study regional issues—transportation, development, economic policy—meet quarterly and provide non‑binding recommendations while recognizing local autonomy. Council members raised concerns about potential duplication with the Regional Transportation Commission and urged a cautious, one‑year monitoring approach. Several members emphasized the importance of having a seat at the table to protect local interests.
Staff noted that any member funding would require governing‑body approval and that the SNCOG’s draft budget and bylaws would return to member jurisdictions for consideration. A council member moved to approve Resolution 80510 to enter the interlocal agreement; the motion was seconded and the council voted unanimously.
The council asked staff to report back after the new organization forms and to provide updates on budget and membership so the council can reconsider funding or participation if SNCOG does not meet expectations.
