Marseilles council approves payroll, accounts-payable warrants and tables Fund Days permit

At a regular meeting, the Marseilles City Council approved routine financial warrants and took procedural action on a community event permit.

Finance: Commissioner Kaminski moved to approve accounts payable for March in the amount of $79,178.73; the motion was seconded and passed on a roll call (as recorded: Commissioner Kaminski — Aye; Commissioner Small — Aye; Shibe/Schaib — No; Commissioner Buckingham — Aye; Mayor Hollenbeck — Aye). The council also approved biweekly payroll for March totaling $94,598.28 after a motion from Commissioner Kaminski and a second; the roll was read in support of the motion.

Events and scheduling: The council voted to table the special-event permit application for Fund Days (scheduled in late June/July) after council members noted a date conflict with the firefighters’ car show. The organizer was asked to rework the schedule so both events do not overlap.

Other items: Councilmembers provided updates on infrastructure projects (Lincoln Street, Illinois Street sewer lining bids, 1st Avenue water-main work) and a housing rehabilitation grant program (the mayor’s office said the program can provide up to $50,000 per house for low-to-moderate-income owner-occupied homes; past rounds typically funded about 10 houses). The mayor also summarized an annexation vote earlier in the month and said a lawsuit challenging the annexation was dismissed with prejudice.
