Mayor Christina Deal described the market as a years-long idea and said organizers expect roughly 20-plus vendors in the first season. She said the council will initially allow a private LLC associated with organizers to run the first year while the market, vendor scheduling and a market-manager position are refined; the city will work with the committee to ensure hold-harmless waivers and insurance certificates are in place. After discussion the council moved and seconded the resolution and voted 'aye' to adopt Resolution 67-2026 establishing the market.
Residents who spoke in favor also asked practical questions about parking for both customers and vendors and about clearing the lot. An attendee asked whether residents must remove cars from the library lot by 7 a.m.; the mayor said the plan is to clear the lot by 7 a.m. and to consider Lily Street for vendor truck parking. Officials promised outreach to neighbors and to give clearer guidance about vendor truck access as the program finalizes.
The market resolution passed unanimously and the council signaled support for the project once a final operational plan is posted. Councilors said they intend to coordinate with nearby businesses and the justice center for overflow parking and to publish a more detailed parking and accessibility plan before the market’s opening.
