Bernards Township proclaims March as National Agricultural Month and Women’s History Month

The Bernards Township Committee adopted two ceremonial resolutions at its meeting, recognizing March as National Agricultural Month and March 2026 as Women’s History Month in Bernards Township.
At the agriculture recognition, the committee noted there are more than 50 farm-assessed lots and described agritourism as a tool to protect farmland. Committeeman Hodges and Mayor Mary Duarte McCarthy both highlighted the township’s farm history; Jim Melito, chair of the Agricultural Advisory Board, accepted the resolution and said "agriculture isn't just an industry. It's a way of life," urging residents to support local farms and agritourism activities.
The committee also adopted a resolution recognizing Women’s History Month and honored the Somerset Hills branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) for long-standing service. The resolution noted the branch has raised more than $800,000 since 1968 in support of education and grants. Robin Marion, representing AAUW Somerset Hills, thanked the committee and described the branch’s educational programming and book-sale fundraising.
Both resolutions passed by voice/roll-call votes, and committee members invited members of the public and honorees to join for photographs and brief remarks.
