Motion to add beer vendor at Autumn Jubilee fails on tie after commissioners debate family focus

The Fund Commission debated whether to add a beer vendor to Autumn Jubilee during a lengthy discussion on balancing family programming with adult‑oriented attractions.

Chair Michelle McDonough framed the proposal as a service enhancement designed to broaden event appeal and to support local service organizations that would hold the temporary liquor license. “I would like to offer another service... it isn't turning it into an alcohol‑centric event,” McDonough said during discussion, noting the village would not carry licensing costs directly and that organizations such as the VFW or Lions Club could handle the license and insurance.

Trustee Alfano and others raised concerns about preserving family‑friendly aspects and whether adding alcohol at an event aimed at families might discourage some residents from attending. As Trustee Alfano put it, the commission heard concerns that frequent alcohol presence could change the character of daytime family programming.

A motion to add a beer vendor to Autumn Jubilee was made and seconded and put to a roll‑call vote. The meeting transcript recorded the roll call and the chair and staff characterized the result as a tie (reported conversationally during the meeting as roughly 2–4 in favor/no), meaning the motion did not pass.
