Summary
At the March 26 meeting the district provided a construction update on Oxford Elementary (brick, insulation and roofing progress), reported a $1,200,000 portion of a Toyota driving-possibilities grant, and previewed a student-led "Leader in Me" secondary summit with over 100 expected attendees and Yukari Figgs as keynote.
District staff gave progress reports on construction and student achievement at the March 26 meeting, and the superintendent reported a major grant contribution that will support a driving-possibilities program.
Johnny, the staff member presenting construction photos and drone shots, said crews had roof decking, brick and insulation in place and that the cafeteria area was the slowest to progress. "You can see insulation on the gym... they've got the scaffolding up on that end where they're putting up brick," he said, walking the board through interior and exterior photos and noting a progress meeting next week. (Johnny; SEG 776—899.)
During the superintendent's report, district leadership said allocation meetings are back on schedule after the Oxford delay and announced a portion of a Toyota driving-possibilities grant. "Our portion of that second piece is, 1,200,000.0," the superintendent reported, saying the funds will support the district's driving-possibilities feeder pattern. (Superintendent; SEG 1299—1303.)
Paul presented the student-achievement "Leader in Me" updates and previewed a Scott County secondary summit scheduled for the following day, featuring keynote speaker Yukari Figgs and more than 100 expected attendees. He described student-led panels, breakout sessions and community learning days at Georgetown Middle and Lemons Mill that showcased leadership work. (Paul; SEG 901—1019.)
Why it matters: Construction progress affects school openings and schedules; the Toyota grant provides substantial program support; and the student-led summit highlights district instructional work and leadership development. The district did not provide a firm completion date for the Oxford cafeteria area during this presentation.
