Summary
Staff said taxiway/run-up pad work should go to bid in early February, MTSU site permitting is close to clearance from TDEC, shade-ports and a corporate hangar are being finalized for spring bidding and two hangars under construction await concrete/asphalt work.
Airport staff provided a construction briefing that covered multiple projects at Shelbyville Municipal Airport.
On airfield work, staff said they plan to advertise the taxiway and run-up pad for bid the first week of February; the project is tied to a larger layout for future hangar development. Staff also said final design steps for a federal tower application are ready pending a TDOT meeting and that FAA planning delays at the Memphis ADO have slowed some reviews.
The MTSU project has had permitting delays but staff reported that the SWIP (stormwater) construction-general permit resubmission had been accepted and TDEC was conducting a review expected to conclude the following week. Demolition items were complete (old house, barn, seed separator) and the airport has coordinated salvage/donation of an antique seed separator to a local museum.
Two hangars under construction have metal erected but await concrete or asphalt work; staff said work may be delayed by cold-weather constraints or asphalt-plant availability. The water project is functionally complete but not fully paid; staff noted follow-up plumbing connections remain to be scheduled and that some small scope items will be addressed during later contractor work.
Staff also confirmed that shade ports and a corporate hangar package is being finalized for a March bid to meet TDOT funding deadlines. The board asked staff to continue coordinating grant timelines and to present firm bid dates and project cost estimates when available.
