Boulder City parks staff on Sept. 22 said multiple capital and maintenance projects are moving forward across the city’s parks system.
Jennifer Sprinkling reported that walking trails at Veterans Park will be resurfaced in phases, beginning with a chip-seal operation adjacent to 26th Street to address cracks followed by targeted trail repairs. “They’re going to be resurfacing them, and I think it’ll be in a couple of different phases,” Sprinkling said.
Sprinkling said Del Prado Playground is open and “has been very busy,” with families visiting regularly. She announced a pickleball ribbon-cutting scheduled for Oct. 13 at 8 a.m. and said staff are evaluating donated solar light fixtures. “We do have a donation for pickleball lights, but it does have to be solar lights,” Sprinkling said. She noted a common limitation of solar fixtures: corner-mounted poles may not deliver enough center-court illumination, and staff are testing whether donated equipment will meet play-safety standards.
On the pool project, Sprinkling said the city is working with design firm VCBO and holding biweekly coordination meetings. The next step is to issue a construction bid package, which staff expect to post before the end of the year so a contractor can be selected and work coordinated with the design team.
Why it matters: Trail and playground maintenance affects everyday recreation options for families and seniors, while the pickleball ribbon-cutting and lighting decision will influence evening play and facility use. The pool design timeline sets the schedule for a major capital project that will require contractor selection and subsequent construction oversight.
Sprinkling closed by inviting questions and indicating staff will return with further technical details and any adjustments to timelines.
The commission moved on to other agenda items after the presentation.
