Board accepts withdrawal of low bidder for Fritz Elementary; approves ECI as general contractor

The Conestoga Valley School District board on March 23 approved the withdrawal of UCS Unlimited Construction Services from the Fritz Elementary contract and accepted ECI as the project's general contractor.
A district presenter (speaker 9) told the board that UCS informed the district it could not proceed with the contract that the board had approved previously. Staff said the district has contacted ECI, the second-low bidder, and that ECI is currently working on other district projects and has delivered successful projects for the district in the past.
Board members asked whether the district would pursue penalties for UCS's withdrawal. The presenter said the district solicitor will send a letter to UCS’s lawyer and that conversations have already occurred regarding next steps.
The board moved first to approve UCS's withdrawal and then to accept ECI as the general contractor; both motions were approved by roll-call votes.
