Forest Park reports lower crime and launches Citizens Police Academy; code compliance enforcement ongoing

Captain Lassiter of Forest Park's police and code compliance division reported crime reductions during the Ward 1 meeting: "crime is down 14.3%" in Ward 1 and about 18.9% citywide. He said the Citizens Police Academy will run March 24 through May 19 on Tuesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. at the police headquarters.
Lassiter also described code-enforcement activity: Officer Jacobs is assigned to Ward 1 addressing multiple concerns, several properties are in environmental court for unsafe living conditions or outdoor storage violations, and a recent inspection on Barton Drive identified structural maintenance, trash accumulation and roadway problems.
Deputy Chief May, reporting for the fire department, said February totals included about 270 EMS calls (23 trauma-related, including one incident described as a student shooting/stabbing) and 441 fire-side calls including five structure fires and 17 auto accidents; he said the department added four employees (three AEMTs and one paramedic), promoted two personnel to paramedic and expects delivery of two rescue trucks next month.
