Romeoville proclaims March 2026 American Red Cross Month after Red Cross presentation on local programs and smoke‑alarm campaign

The Village of Romeoville issued a proclamation declaring March 2026 as American Red Cross Month after a presentation from the American Red Cross Illinois River Valley chapter.
Reagan Patterson, chair of the chapter, said the organization is touring local jurisdictions to strengthen relationships with elected officials and first responders so the Red Cross can respond more quickly to local disasters. Patterson said the chapter wants to ensure it can "be here for your residents" and asked for contact points with local departments.
Ryan McVay, the chapter’s community disaster program manager and interim executive director, described the chapter’s disaster cycle services, blood services, veteran support and training programs. McVay asked for volunteer support for an upcoming one‑day "Sound the Alarm" campaign on May 16 to install smoke alarms in homes between Bolingbrook and Romeoville and said the chapter worked with firefighters in the area. McVay said the chapter installed alarms in "over 400" homes last year.
Trustee Tristan Richards moved and Trustee Clancy seconded the proclamation; the board approved it by voice vote. The proclamation text included background on the Red Cross’s history and noted the local chapter’s volunteer base and regional service area.
Trustees and staff thanked the Red Cross for its local work and said they will coordinate on volunteer recruitment and event logistics in advance of the May 16 campaign.
