The Village of Romeoville approved professional services agreements to begin design work on a new Route 66 theme stop and to relocate the Veterans Memorial to the Village Hall campus.
Village staff said the Route 66 Park design contract with RVI and Robinson Engineering is budgeted at $281,400 to produce renderings and a project schedule. The village manager described the two items as “two very exciting projects before you this evening,” and said the first step is getting a design contract in place.
Officials and trustees said the Route 66 site is being timed to coincide with the approaching anniversary of the highway and would serve as a more visible gateway for visitors coming from Chicago. The mayor said the project would improve accessibility and provide a place for residents and visitors to “learn about” the community’s history along the route.
Staff told trustees the Veterans Memorial would move from its current location to the Village Hall campus to provide more parking, better year‑round access and improved ADA compliance. Staff also reported that Brian McCartan has offered to provide irrigation work for the relocated memorial at no cost, and that existing dedication stones and elements would be moved and preserved.
Trustees discussed parking and pedestrian safety at the current site and supported the Village Hall location as a quieter, more reflective setting for memorial events. The board approved the resolutions authorizing the professional services agreements as part of the consent agenda.
The village manager said the design teams will present additional concept materials and a schedule as those details are finalized. No construction contract or timeline for relocation was adopted at the meeting; design work is the immediate next step.
