Denver City Council adopted a proclamation on Jan. 12 recognizing West East Neighbors United (WENU) for organizing cross-neighborhood leadership and securing community benefits in negotiations tied to the proposed NWSL stadium. Councilmember Alvidrez introduced the proclamation and said the coalition’s work aimed to bridge historic divides between neighborhoods on opposite sides of the South Platte River.
Multiple community leaders accepted the proclamation and highlighted long-term neighborhood ties and the volunteer work that produced enforceable community benefits. Adriana Lopez (Valverde Neighborhood Association), Tim Lopez (Baker), Anita Banuelos and co-chairs thanked council members and staff who supported the community-led negotiation process. Council and community speakers noted the inclusion of environmental and LEED-style sustainability commitments in the CBA and called the CBA a model for future stadium and large-development negotiations.
The proclamation (Proclamation 020-621) was adopted by voice/roll call and community leaders were invited to make brief remarks of thanks.
