The McAlester City Council approved a notice of award for the McAlester Airport stormwater drainage project (phase 1) to Mayor's Specialty Services LLC for $213,936.65, authorized purchase of a Vx75 vacuum excavator for $202,740 from Great Plains, and adopted an ordinance amending the FY2025‑26 budget to fund several stormwater items.
An engineering presenter described the airport stormwater work as the first phase of a multi‑phase program and provided maps of the work areas. During the discussion staff identified and corrected a numerical discrepancy in the packet and confirmed the correct award amount is $213,936.65.
On the equipment purchase, staff said the excavator will be used to clear storm inlets, culverts and neighborhood drains across multiple wards and demonstrated that the purchase is expected to reduce recurring flooding problems and improve maintenance efficiency.
The budget amendment used available fund balance to cover the stormwater equipment purchase and other immediate drainage work, including levee support projects estimated in discussion at approximately $145,000. The council approved the purchase, the ordinance amendment and related motions by roll call.
Next steps: procurement and acceptance of the excavator, scheduling phase‑1 airport work with the awarded contractor, and tracking expenditures under the amended budget.
