Adams County holds first reading to adopt 2025 Colorado Wildfire Resiliency Code

Adams County held a first reading of Ordinance No. 14 to adopt the 2025 Colorado Wildfire Resiliency Code during the commissioners' meeting. Sally Daggett of the county attorney's office told the board the adoption is required for jurisdictions with property in the wildland-urban interface and must be completed by April 1, 2026.
Daggett said second reading is proposed for March 24 and, if adopted, the code would become effective May 15, 2026 after the statutory newspaper publication. She also noted pending state legislation could alter implementation dates or some material requirements and the county attorney's office will monitor any changes.
Commissioner O'Dorisio observed that the county has limited discretion under the state mandate: "It's my understanding that we don't have a choice in this." Daggett confirmed it is state legislation that required local adoption and advised following current law while monitoring proposed changes in the legislative session.
No vote was required for the first reading. The ordinance remains subject to the scheduled second reading and any future state-level changes.
