Adams County approves $5.48 million amendment for Flat Rock training-center roof enclosure

Adams County commissioners unanimously approved Amendment 2 to the construction-manager/general-contractor agreement with Owen Ames Kimball (doing business as Oak Colorado LLC) for $5,478,869 to build a roof enclosure at the Flat Rock Regional Training Center shooting range.
Kristen Grace, project manager for the Flat Rock shooting-range roof enclosure in Facilities and Fleet Management, told commissioners the amendment will "allow the contractor to proceed with mobilization and construction for this important project." She said the enclosure will improve temperature regulation, airflow management and reduce stormwater runoff that could carry lead-contaminated materials into drainage systems.
Grace said the project followed county procurement policy and a formal RFP; the county received seven proposals and selected the contractor based on best value. County staff said the guaranteed maximum price for this amendment is within the approved budget.
Commissioners praised the project's safety and operational benefits for the sheriff's office and regional training partners. A motion to approve the resolution was made, seconded and passed unanimously.
The enclosure is intended to support mandatory firearms training and improve environmental protection; staff said construction will proceed once the amendment is finalized.
