The Walnut Grove City Council approved a proposal from Benchmark to repair an eroded stormwater headwall and stabilize the approach to a storm pipe, after engineers inspected the site and found no confirmed pipe damage.
Speaker 7 (Joe Walter, planning and zoning) explained the east‑side headwall erosion: stormwater had undermined the dirt supporting the headwall, leaving a large void that requires removing the headwall, placing rock and fill beneath it, and re‑seating it so the structure can function again. "There’s no pipe damage that Aaron identified," he said, but noted excavation and stabilization work would be required to be sure.
Council discussed site access and public safety measures; staff confirmed the location is within the city’s stormwater easement and that cones/posts had been placed around the hole. After discussion, the council moved to approve the Benchmark repair proposal. Speaker 5 recorded an abstention during the vote; the chairman announced the motion passed by voice.
On a separate motion the council approved a vegetation buffer modification for a commercial office property (back of lot only) after brief discussion; no conditions were recorded. The buffer change motion was moved, seconded and carried by voice vote.
Next steps: staff will coordinate with Benchmark and public works on scheduling and neighborhood notification; the project was described as maintenance/repair rather than a new capital project.
