The Board approved a SEQRA (State Environmental Quality Review Act) Type II determination for the proposed North Elementary repair and reconstruction project and awarded the general-construction contract for the capital project to Continental Construction LLC.
Staff explained the project scope — including provisions to refurbish an outdoor learning/tennis-court area, create an outdoor classroom and make building repairs identified by the district’s architect — and the board reviewed the architect’s findings and the SEQRA criteria for a Type II action. Following discussion, the board moved, seconded and approved a resolution concluding that the proposed action involves routine replacement or rehabilitation activities and requires no further SEQRA review.
The board then considered bids for the general construction contract and accepted Continental Construction LLC as the responsive bidder; district staff said the earliest planned start date is April break. The superintendent noted Continental Construction had completed earlier district work (a vestibule at the district office) and recommended the firm for responsiveness. The motions for both the SEQRA determination and the contract award were approved by voice vote.
