Eddy County commissioners on March 10 approved two personnel actions brought by county staff.
The treasurer requested authority to create and fill one full-time treasury clerk position to maintain strengthened dual-control procedures across Carlsbad and Artesia offices and ensure uninterrupted public access to treasury functions. The treasurer said the position will be funded through an internal budget adjustment with no additional fiscal-year cost, and commissioners voted to approve the request.
Separately, the fire department asked permission to over-hire one firefighter while a current employee transitions to active duty under the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA). Staff said the over-hire is intended to preserve operational capacity while the member serves and to ensure the position is available on return. Commissioners approved the over-hire request.
Both approvals were presented as maintenance of operations and internal controls rather than expansions of services.
