Summary
Eddy County, as fiscal agent, applied for a DFA grant to upgrade CAD systems and enable CAD-to-CAD interoperability among 16 PSAPs in New Mexico; staff said first-year statewide implementation funding was secured and local dispatch partners are on board.
Eddy County staff told the commission on March 10 that the county applied for a DFA grant to fund a CAD-to-CAD service upgrade to improve interoperability among public-safety answering points (PSAPs) across New Mexico.
The project aims to allow instant electronic transfers of warrants, restraining orders and court paperwork between PSAPs and to reduce delays caused by relay mailing or other manual transfers. As fiscal agent the county said it had requested DFA funding and that an e911 surcharge increase has provided additional DFA resources.
The presenter said the county is one of 16 PSAPs that applied and that the manager of Carlsbad Dispatch, Michael, is on board for the integration. The project would include Carlsbad, Lea County, Roswell and Otero County with an option for the state police to join. Staff said the first-year statewide implementation funding had been secured for initial roll-out.
Commissioners acknowledged the request; no controversy was recorded in the hearing. Staff said the project would streamline warrant processing and other paperwork and improve interoperability among dispatch centers.
Next steps include DFA review and, if awarded, implementation planning with participating PSAPs.
