Dade City commission approves pitched‑roof amphitheater design

The Dade City Commission voted unanimously to approve the pitched‑roof concept for the city’s new amphitheater.
Staff said two concept options were returned by the design‑builder, and recommended Option 1, a pitched/gabled roof. The contractor, Bill Beauregard, told commissioners that the diagram shown was a conceptual elevation and that a structural engineer would sign and seal construction plans that must meet Florida wind‑load and building‑code requirements. “There’ll be a structural engineer that will sign and seal these,” Beauregard said, and staff confirmed final construction plans will be brought back for review.
Commissioners asked for specific details such as guttering and runoff, overhang depths, and a dedicated breaker or sufficient electrical capacity for stage equipment. Mayor Pro Tem Woodard specifically requested written assurance that the final plans will meet hurricane‑resistant wind‑load standards and that a separate breaker for stage equipment be specified; the contractor and staff said those details would be added as the design is developed.
The commission moved to approve the concept choice and voted 5–0 by roll call to adopt Concept 1. Staff said it will develop construction drawings, make one‑on‑one briefings with commissioners for details and return with sealed plans prior to permitting.
The approval covers the concept selection only; final construction and permitting documents will be returned to the commission for final sign‑off.
