Dade City CRA accepts donated parcel for downtown pocket park

The Community Redevelopment Agency of Dade City voted unanimously to accept a donated portion of the Whites and Corn property on 7th Street and authorize steps to complete the transfer and final deed signing. City staff told the board the roughly 6,000‑square‑foot parcel on the southern portion of 14449 7th Street has long hosted city kiosks and was identified in the CRA plan as a potential pocket park site with future amenities such as interactive art and restrooms.
City manager Van Ervin told the board staff approached the heirs of Otto Weitzen Quorum and submitted a formal offer on Dec. 16, 2025; a family representative later asked to donate the parcel. Van Ervin said the CRA will pay costs associated with surveying, closing and recording, and that the property is confirmed free of liens or other encumbrances.
Commissioners moved and seconded the item without additional public comment. The roll‑call vote carried 5–0. The CRA noted the parcel was budgeted within the CRA’s 2025–26 property acquisition allocation and will be developed as a pocket park in the north end of the CRA district, with future enhancements to be determined during design and budgeting.
Staff said the mayor will sign the final deed transfer at the time of transfer, and that further design work (including restroom and interactive art concepts) will come back to the board for review and funding authorization.
