Dade City preservation board presents three historic plaques and opens program to all registered properties

The Dade City Historic Preservation Advisory Board on March 9 presented three historic plaques to property owners and confirmed the plaque program is open to any property listed on the local register.
Staff told the board that three plaques were ready for distribution: the Eldred Home (constructed 1946), the Hamilton's Low House (constructed 1910) and the McCutcheon House (constructed 1910). Staff said the homeowners for two of the properties were not able to attend but that arrangements are being made to deliver plaques. "She's making arrangements to have the plaque fixed to her home," a board member said of a homeowner who could not attend.
Board members and staff praised the homeowners' stewardship. Chair Beagle added that the program has been well received and that the plaque design was "very nice, very professional." Staff clarified that any property on the local historic register may apply for a plaque; the sequence of applications so far has simply resulted in church properties being recognized first.
The board encouraged owners and other residents to apply and noted the plaque program will continue to be part of the board's efforts to preserve local historic character. The board also reminded residents that its next meeting date is being rescheduled and that appointments and guidelines for future reviews are forthcoming.
