Budget committee elects Sue Sherman chair, names Karen White vice chair and affirms appointments

The Timberlane Regional School District budget committee completed its annual reorganization on March 19, electing Sue Sherman as chair and Karen White as vice chair, reaffirming Heather as recording secretary, and adopting the committee bylaws for the year.

Chair election: Nominations were opened for chair. After nominations for Brian Smith and Sue Sherman and a brief discussion of experience and succession norms, committee members used a hand-count to choose a chair. The presiding officer announced Sue Sherman had the greater number of hands and welcomed her as chair.

Vice chair and appointments: Sherman moved to nominations for vice chair. Brian Smith and Karen White were nominated and the committee elected Karen White by hand count. Heather was nominated and affirmed by consensus to continue as recording secretary. The committee also selected two representatives (a member and an alternate) to the district CIP committee; Ryan agreed to serve and Sheila agreed to serve as alternate.

Bylaws and parliamentary procedure: The chair reviewed the bylaws included in the packet and noted the last amendment in 2022. A motion to adopt the bylaws was made, seconded and adopted; an initial hand count was recorded as eight in favor and one member later confirmed support. The chair asked members to follow parliamentary procedure more closely at future meetings.

What to expect next: With officers and appointments set, the committee moved into its business agenda, including review of minutes and the superintendent’s fiscal report.
