Henderson County accepted a State of Texas Governor's Office (SOGA) grant award of approximately $263,194.40 to equip 28 sheriff's office vehicles with bullet-resistant windshields, passenger doors and armor paneling.
A county representative told the court the award covers outfitting 28 vehicles and requires no local match. "We were awarded by the Office of the Governor for around $263,194.40, and that'll allow the sheriff's office to have 28 vehicles outfitted with bulletproof glass windshields, passenger doors, armor paneling," the presenter said. County and law-enforcement representatives discussed logistics for removing, storing and reusing components when vehicles are retired.
Chiefs and sheriff's staff indicated the components would be installed on the newer-duty vehicles and that older components could be salvaged and stored for future use; staff discussed using a container to store the removed glass and racks for windshields. The court recorded its approval of the statement of grant award in a unanimous vote.
The grant acceptance does not obligate local matching funds and was entered into the record as an awarded SOGA grant to be used for law enforcement vehicle safety components.
