County holds public hearing on courthouse freight elevator; vendor warns schedule driven by fabrication timelines

The Woodbury County Board of Supervisors opened and closed a public hearing on the courthouse freight elevator project and heard scheduling and operational details from building services staff and the project architect.
Building services director Kenny Schmidt explained the hearing was to gather public input and answer questions; he said the courthouse needs the elevator work completed but that ultimate scheduling will be driven by the contractor and the elevator vendor. An architect for the project said manufacture typically takes 15–18 weeks and that, as the project approaches, the contractor and vendor can coordinate delivery timing to avoid conflicts with election equipment needs.
A supervisor asked whether work could be scheduled after the November election to avoid disrupting election equipment storage and handling; staff said they would try to coordinate timing with the contractor and vendor and noted some flexibility exists so long as schedules are monitored.
With no public opposition, the board closed the hearing and voted to proceed (recorded vote 5-0). The county will coordinate vendor and contractor scheduling and use the usual procurement and contracting processes for the project.
