Summary
The council adopted the 2025 arterial bus-rapid-transit (BRT) plan update, selecting the West 7th Corridor as the J line and the Nicollet Corridor as the K line for implementation between 2030 and 2035 after multi-year screening and public engagement.
The Metropolitan Council voted March 11 to adopt recommendations from the 2025 arterial bus rapid transit plan update, advancing the West 7th Corridor as the Metro J line and the Nicollet Corridor as the K line for potential implementation between 2030 and 2035.
"The process led to the West 7th Corridor recommended as the Metro J line and the Nicollet Corridor as the K line," said Council Member Barker, who presented the transportation committee's recommendation. Barker noted the planning process began with 17 candidate corridors and used a series of screening, evaluation and community engagement steps to narrow options.
Council members commended the project team and the multi-year process of analysis, committee review and community input that preceded the council vote. The chair reminded viewers that such votes follow extensive staff work, multiple transportation-committee discussions and prior work sessions to ensure public conversation and analysis before adoption.
The council adopted business item 20 26-46 by voice vote. Council members said they expect further project development and partner coordination before implementation in the 2030–2035 timeframe.
