Coffey County approves asphalt, canopy, painting and flooring bids for highway department

Road and Bridge Superintendent Ryan Durst asked the Coffey County Board of Commissioners to authorize bids and approve several maintenance and facility improvement contracts for the highway department.
Durst recommended soliciting sealed bids for project A2601 C to mill 10 inches and install a 10-inch hot-mix overlay at two high-maintenance intersections (California Street & 58 Highway South; Shetland Road & 58 Highway North). “Were looking to take it out 10 inches and put 10 inches of asphalt back,” Durst said. The board authorized the solicitation with funds to come from the Special Highway Improvement Fund; the motion passed 4–0.
The board also approved a quote from Evergreen to install a canopy at the highway shop entrance for $8,938 (General Fund capital outlay), a contract with Sharp Painting for drywall repair and painting of the front office for $6,675 (General Fund capital outlay), and Edgecomb Flooring for vinyl plank and modular carpet tiles for $15,705.67 (General Fund capital outlay). Commissioners said multiple bids were solicited for the flooring project and that this work had been budgeted in capital improvement funds.
Each motion was moved, seconded and approved by a unanimous 4–0 vote. Durst said the canopy and flooring are intended to reduce water intrusion and improve durability in high-traffic areas, and the asphalt project targets recurring deterioration at two intersections.
Next steps: staff will publish bid solicitations for the asphalt project, coordinate contract execution with the chosen vendors, and schedule the work in line with the countys capital improvement plan.
