Canton Township approves site plans, appointments and municipal purchases; board adopts proclamations

At its meeting, the Canton Charter Township Board of Trustees approved a series of planning, personnel and procurement actions recommended by staff and the planning commission.
Planning approvals included adoption of Resolution No. 2026-18 to approve the preliminary site plan for Fillmore Place Phases 4 and 5 (planning application PZ25-00024). The board noted that the original PDD was approved in 2020 for about 504 units on roughly 97.3 acres; a 2025 amendment reduced units by a net 151 and replaces certain attached units with 100 detached single-family homes in the new phases. Planning staff and Community Planner Patrick Sloan were present to answer questions; the planning commission had recommended approval.
The board also adopted Resolution No. 2026-20 approving a proposed 10,000-square-foot warehouse and distribution facility at 4891 South Sheldon (zoned LI). Planning staff noted some outstanding utility-related engineering items to be addressed during engineering review and a labeling correction on a parking-sheet label (the plan label shows 20 spaces but the count is 19); the condition will be corrected administratively before finalization.
Separately, the board approved Resolution No. 2026-19 for the Canton Western Wayne Building site plan (planning application 133-SPX-8759) to add roughly 1,000 square feet to the township-owned building at 44508 Gettys Road; the building is proposed for lease to GrowthWorks for administrative and professional office use. Planning conditions were largely addressed with updated materials.
On procurement and personnel: the board waived the bid process and approved a $25,635 purchase order to DuraEdge Products Inc. to renovate infields at Canton Sports Center (100 tons of material, professional installation and laser grading). The board approved appointment of Melody Moore to the Canton Cares Fund advisory committee (term to 12/31/2029) and reappointed Laura Mortier (term to 12/31/2028). The board also approved adding a Lead Clerk 4 position to the TPOAM wage scale to provide advanced accounting support in the treasurer's office; the position will receive a rate 2% greater than the Clerk 4 salary with no headcount increase.
The board adopted proclamations recognizing April as Fair Housing Month (Resolution No. 2026-22) and April as Arbor Month (Resolution No. 2026-17); the supervisor highlighted planned Arbor Day events and the township’s Tree City USA recognition.
