Bulverde council authorizes staff to issue RFP for city audit

The Bulverde City Council voted to authorize staff to issue a request for proposals to secure a new city auditor.
Mayor Danny Castle moved to proceed after council members discussed reasons for an RFP — potential cost savings, periodic rotation for fresh perspectives and the chance to add specialized experience — and cautions about the limited pool of municipal audit firms and added staff workload to onboard a new provider. “I don't see a reason not to go out and see what else is available out there,” a council member said, while another warned the pool of municipal auditing firms has shrunk and past solicitations in other cities drew no responses.
Staff told the council the current auditor is based in San Antonio and has indicated willingness to respond to an RFP. Staff proposed issuing the RFP in April, allowing 30–45 days for responses, and returning with recommendations for selection by July or August so a new auditor could be scheduled to audit early in the next calendar year.
Council members voted in favor of proceeding with the RFP and asked staff to return with a proposed schedule and scoring matrix; the motion carried by voice vote.
