Board approves lawn-contract extension, 10-cent meal authorization and continued free student admission at home games

At its regular meeting the Cannon Falls School Board approved three routine action items by voice vote.

Contract extension: The board approved a one-year extension of the 2023'025 lawn maintenance quotes under the contract terms, allowing the district to extend at current prices with annual cancellation rights. The superintendent recommended the extension; the board moved, seconded and approved the motion.

Meal-price authorization: The board approved a 10-cent per meal price authorization for the 2026'27 school year to keep local pricing within the state's 10-cent annual cap should free-lunch funding change. District staff said lunches are currently free but the authorization maintains compliance with state limits in case funding shifts. The motion passed by voice vote.

Free admission for students: The board approved extending the extracurricular committee's recommendation to allow free admission for pre-K through 12 Cannon Falls students at regular-season home games on an ongoing basis. The practice began as a two-year trial (approved May 22, 2023 and extended April 28, 2025) and will remain in place unless a future financial review suggests changes; the board said concessions and visiting attendees continue to provide some revenue. The motion to approve indefinitely was made, seconded and passed by voice vote.
