Board praises Superintendent Jeff Sampson in mid-year review, highlights early-learning and fiscal goals

The board chair summarized goals set earlier this year and at the July 28 evaluation, saying Sampson has prioritized presence in the community and improved communication tools. "Jeff continues to be very active in our community with various groups and committees," the chair said, citing weekly elementary visits, relations with the Rotary and engagement with city leaders in Cannon Falls.
The evaluation highlighted three performance goals: promoting the district through outreach and improved communications (including a website and event-scheduler app), developing a plan to monitor community needs and expand early learning and childcare options as the Cannon Falls area grows, and maintaining fiscal responsibility. The chair noted the district has continued to receive clean audits and has been working to increase the undesignated fund balance and make preschool programming fiscally viable.
Board members credited Sampson with extensive outreach during the levy campaign: the chair said he "played a critical role in getting our much needed levy to pass by spending numerous hours giving many presentations and talking to many groups and community members." The board said it will continue to monitor progress and looks forward to further work in the second half of the year.
No formal action was taken beyond acknowledging the results of the closed-session evaluation; the board moved on to committee reports and business on the agenda.
