Coffee County students, teams honored: Young Georgia Authors winners and regional athletics champions

The meeting also recognized athletic accomplishments. Coach Sasha Kellogg said the girls' basketball team finished the season 20–3, won the region, reached the Final Four for the first time since 1992 and placed multiple players on postseason all‑star and All‑State rosters. Assistant coach Jared Anderson and other coaches highlighted a region championship for boys' swimming and individual qualifying times and state‑level performances.
Wrestling coaches noted four region champions and several state qualifiers; Misty Carter was recognized as the district's first female state placer in wrestling and received scholarship interest.
Why it matters: The recognitions spotlight students' academic and extracurricular achievements that district leaders said reflect program investments in instruction and extracurricular coaching. Board members and administrators repeatedly thanked teachers, coaches and transportation staff for supporting those outcomes.
