Finance Director Julio summarized the package and emphasized the importance of the proposed coordinator. “I think the first and foremost, the most important one is the economic development coordinator,” Julio said, adding that while the position lacks offsetting revenues in the current year, it is expected to have a long-term impact on sales-tax generation.
Julio listed other adjustments including transfers of six public safety aides, a new code enforcement officer (part-time), vehicle purchases, and one-time costs for the Casa Velasco Neighborhood Center and Parks & Recreation totaling about $225,000. Staff characterized the net fiscal impact as nominal for the current year and described the coordinator as an investment in future revenue-generation capacity.
The council moved and approved the midyear adjustments on a voice vote (moved by Rodriguez; seconded by Rounds). Council members thanked staff for transparent budget materials presented earlier at a budget meeting and asked staff to continue outreach as projects proceed.
Next steps include onboarding the new position and executing one-time purchases; staff indicated they will report back as implementation advances.
