Board proclaims 10th Lincoln County Senior Games and approves two senior-focused grants

The Lincoln County Board of Commissioners recognized the 10th anniversary of the Lincoln County Senior Games and approved two grants to support senior services during its March 2026 meeting.
John Davis and colleagues presented a proclamation recognizing a decade of the senior-games program, noting the games — open to residents age 50 and older — will include more than 30 events and silver-arts competitions countywide and run from April 18 through May 21, 2026. John Davis said registration is open through March 30 and invited commissioners to attend the opening events.
Kathy Sain presented two grant awards from the North Carolina Department of Insurance. The first, a Senior Medicare Patrol grant, will fund fraud-and-scam education directed at older adults, two shred events (one at the senior center this Thursday and another during the Senior Games opening ceremony) and the purchase of a large shredder for the senior center. The board approved the grant by voice vote.
The second grant — an FY26 MIPPA (Medicare Improvement for Patients and Providers Act) award — was described by Sain as funding outreach for residents new to Medicare or exploring Medicare Advantage options, and helping eligible residents apply for extra-help programs to reduce prescription drug costs. Sain said the county was awarded $4,672 for the year and that no county match is required. The board approved that award by voice vote.
The proclamation and grants aim to support senior engagement, provide access to fraud-prevention resources and expand assistance for prescription drug affordability in Lincoln County.
The board noted the connection between the grants and Senior Games activities, and Sain said the county will additionally host two shredding events and explore on-site shredder availability at the senior center.
