Boulder City awarded signage grant as part of World War II heritage-city designation

Staff reported that Boulder City and Henderson were jointly designated Nevada’s World War II Heritage City, and that a grant was awarded to both jurisdictions to fund signage. "The grant was awarded to both cities to spend $10,000 on signage," staff said.
Staff described proposed sign locations that would tie the designation to the Veterans Memorial Cemetery and Boulder City Parkway, and shared mock-ups of the proposed signage and logo. The grant’s public-facing elements would include signage and an educational web page. Staff said the Boulder City webpage would be standalone on the city’s existing website and would tell the local story of why Boulder City received the designation; staff planned that page for completion by November 2025.
Commissioners asked whether the long project name "Paths of perseverance honoring World War 2 history from Henderson to Boulder City" would appear on the signs; staff replied the signs would use the heritage-city logo rather than the full project name. Commissioners also connected the signage to other local heritage work, noting that the old hangar (a World War II–era structure) is a related preservation priority.
No formal vote was required; staff will continue to coordinate sign locations, pull photos and information from local partners and work with the commission on website content and outreach.
