The Boulder City Historic Preservation Commission nominated and approved 812 Arizona Street (Saint Christopher's Episcopal Church) as the recipient of the 2025 Historic Preservation Award and advanced planning for Historic Preservation Day, scheduled for May 10.
Staff walked the commission through eight award applications included in the packet and asked commissioners to discuss preferences. Several commissioners praised 812 Arizona’s long-term maintenance and aesthetic preservation; one commissioner suggested sharing the award but the group moved to nominate 812 Arizona and approved the nomination by voice vote.
Staff outlined the draft May 10 schedule: children’s activities at Browder's Bookstore from 9–10 a.m.; presentation of the award and student banner winners from 10–11:30 a.m.; public viewing at the historic water filtration plant (if renovations allow); and a historic tile demonstration at ABC Park from 1–2 p.m. Commissioners discussed activity locations, table/volunteer needs, weather contingencies and the city’s ability to supply tables, chairs and sound equipment.
Commissioners asked staff to revise the existing save-the-date flyer to include the full schedule, event addresses and clearer activity images. Staff suggested Commissioner Macon incorporate the schedule into the flyer and distribute it roughly a month before the event; staff offered to print hard copies for commissioners to post in local businesses and to link details via a QR code to the city website. The mayor was tentatively confirmed to present the award at the event.
Staff also confirmed plans for a children's activity rotation and that donated or city-purchased supplies would support the activities. The commission set deadlines for finalizing publicity materials in the coming weeks so promotion can begin at least a month before May 10.
The commission’s selection and the event plan will be reflected in finalized promotional materials and reported at the April meeting if needed.
