Commission hears staff plan for new PDF map; residents ask for street names and contributing-house list

Staff presented a packet on July 23 describing options for a new historic-district map and reported outreach to real estate and business professionals. Staff said realtors declined a wall map but prefer a shareable PDF that can be emailed to clients to show district boundaries and resources.
"They were not interested in a wall map. But what they were interested in is a PDF map that they could hand out to clients, more importantly, that they could email to clients that show the boundaries of the historic district," staff said.
Commissioners discussed enhancing the existing mid-2000s map with clearer boundary labels, photographs of significant properties, and street names so newcomers can find contributing houses. Several commissioners suggested partnering with local organizations — including the railroad museum and other stakeholders — to promote the district and attract buyers interested in restoring historic homes.
During the final public-comment period Robin Baker reiterated that the map should include street names and asked for a public list of contributing houses so visitors and new residents can identify historic properties more easily.
Staff confirmed the current historic-district reference guide and map are available on the city's historic preservation web page and said staff could work with Courtney Mooney to provide enhancements and create an elevated PDF for distribution to realtors.
No formal vote or funding decision on producing a new map was taken at the meeting; commissioners directed staff to continue working with realtors and to place related items on future agendas as needed.
