Spencer County board adds four snow days, sets May 21 graduation

The Spencer County Board of Education voted Wednesday to amend the 2025–26 school calendar to add four missed traditional snow days and to set the district’s graduation for Thursday, May 21, 2026.
Superintendent Dr. Bosley told trustees the district missed four days this winter (Dec. 2, Jan. 26, Jan. 27 and Jan. 30). He recommended tacking those days onto the end of the school year so the final student day would be Thursday, May 21, with a staff closing day on Friday, May 22. Dr. Bosley said the district had tentatively reserved Broadgate Arena for commencement and proposed a 6:30 p.m. start with doors opening at 5:30 p.m.
A board member moved the amendment to the calendar and the motion was seconded; trustees voiced agreement and the motion carried. The board then moved and approved setting graduation at Broadgate Arena on May 21 with the times as presented.
The superintendent also used his report to recognize student and staff accomplishments across the district, including band and archery achievements and a senior who testified before the state education committee.
The amended calendar will shift a primary election date into a non-school day (May 19). Board members discussed the tentative graduation logistics and noted the timing was driven by venue availability.
